The Holiday Allowance Fund

The Holiday Allowance Fund manages the accumulated holiday allowance from the transitional year leading to the implementation of the new Holidays Act.

Part of the holiday allowance have been paid to The Holiday Allowance Fund for investment. Another part will remain with the employers for a shorter or longer period.

It is our job to ensure the employee holiday allowance, but also allow the employers to keep the holiday allowance for as long as needed – however, only until the employee’s withdrawal from the labour market, where payment must take place.

At the beginning of 2021, employers had reported holiday allowance for a total of approx. DKK 108.3 billion. In connection with the early disbursement in autumn 2020, approx. DKK 56 billion was disbursed. In spring 2021, there will also be a new early disbursement with the same disbursement profile, after this there will be DKK 20 billion in the Holiday Allowance Fund, some with the employers and some in the fund. How the assets are divided between the two parties, is still uncertain.

Scenarios for the investment strategy

Employer decisions will have an impact on the investment strategy of the Holiday Allowance Fund. Therefore, we will be working with different scenarios, because there are no sure indications of how the employers will handle the holiday allowance – i.e. how many employers choose to pay the holiday allowance to the Holiday Allowance Fund, and how many employers choose to keep the funds in the company.

Investments in 2020

We have received the first approximately DKK 10 billion of the expected assets of around DKK 100 billion in 2020. This payment derives from payments made to FerieKonto from 1 September 2019 to 31 August 2020. An investment strategy for these assets will be prepared.
