Active ownership

In LD Pensions, we use our rights as shareholders to encourage companies to become more sustainable and to ensure sound management of sustainability risks. We believe this benefits long-term returns, the company’s shareholders, its employees and society as a whole.

In LD Pensions, we engage with companies to support their transition by entering into dialogue with them and voting at their general meetings. The majority of our dialogue with companies regarding responsible business conduct is handled by our engagement partner. They engage, on our behalf, with companies that have breached international norms and standards, or which are assessed as posing a significant climate and environmental (E), social (S) or governance (G) risk that they have failed to address. They also engage in dialogue with companies on selected ESG themes, such as respect for labour and human rights.

We also engage with companies through our external investment managers, whom we have selected, amongst other things, on the basis of their ability to engage with companies to promote a sustainable transition. Furthermore, we collaborate with other institutional investors to engage in joint dialogue with companies on improvements, for example by tabling shareholder proposals or co-signing letters.

By working together with others, we can engage with hundreds of companies worldwide – far more than if we were to conduct the direct dialogue ourselves. Furthermore, we are stronger when we work together with others, as collectively we represent a larger proportion of the shareholder base. This makes it easier to get our messages across.
