Payouts in the event of death

In the event of death, the LD Savings will always pass to the deceased’s estate.

When a member of The Cost-of-Living Allowance Fund dies, the LD Savings always pass to the estate. The Cost-of-Living Allowance Fund is automatically notified of the death by the CPR register if the member had a Danish civil registration address.

Payouts to the estate

The deceased member’s savings will be paid into the deceased’s NemKonto approximately two weeks after we have received notification of the death from the CPR register. In connection with the payouts, we automatically report details of the payouts to the probate portal and send a letter to the estate.

If the member did not have a NemKonto, we will contact the person appointed by the probate court as the contact person or administrator to obtain their bank details so that we can pay out the savings.

What should the bereaved do?

As a next of kin, you do not need to take any action yourself to have the LD Savings paid out. Once The Cost-of-Living Allowance Fund has received the notification from the CPR register, it will attempt to pay the LD Savings into the deceased’s NemKonto.

If the member was resident abroad

If you are a relative of a member who was resident abroad, it is important that you contact The Cost-of-Living Allowance Fund, as we are not always automatically notified of deaths outside Denmark.

In the event of death, the LD Savings will always pass to the deceased’s estate. The Cost-of-Living Allowance Fund cannot make payouts to an heir without documentation confirming that the payouts are being made in accordance with the rules governing the administration of the estate.
