Employees will be able to receive payment of their remaining frozen holiday allowance. This has been approved by a majority in the Danish Parliament. The exact date for the start of early payouts has not yet been set, but it will be before Easter. It will be possible to apply for payouts from the start date and for the following two months.
Employers have reported a total of 108 billion Danish kroner in accrued holiday allowance funds. Back in autumn 2020, early payouts of up to three weeks’ worth of the frozen holiday allowance were made. Just over DKK 52 billion was paid out in connection with this. Employees therefore still have just over DKK 56 billion in outstanding holiday allowance, which can be paid out when the employees' holiday allowance fund opens the second round of early payouts.
If, as an employee, you have already been paid up to three weeks’ holiday allowance funds in autumn 2020, you can now receive payment for the remaining two weeks. If you chose not to have your holiday allowance funds paid out in autumn 2020, you can have all five weeks’ holiday allowance funds paid out in one go.
It is up to you whether you wish to have your holiday allowance paid out. If you choose to leave your holiday allowance in the scheme, it will continue to be held as pension savings with The Holiday Allowance Fund.
Originally, the plan was for the frozen holiday allowance funds to be saved up and paid out upon retirement from the labour market. A political decision has subsequently been taken to pay out the frozen holiday allowance to anyone who wishes to receive it. This measure is intended to benefit the Danish economy.
