In the event of death

In the event of the death of an LD member, the LD savings account is always paid out to the estate

The Cost-of-Living Allowance Fund will be automatically notified of the death by the Civil Registration System, provided the member was registered at an address listed in the national register.

Payment to the estate

The deceased member’s LD savings will be paid into the deceased’s “nemkonto” account approximately two weeks after the Cost-of-Living Allowance Fund has received notification of the death from the Civil Registration System. In connection with the payment, the Cost-of-Living Allowance Fund will automatically send a letter to the estate and to the probate court to inform them that the payment has been made.

If the member does not have a ‘nemkonto’ account, the Cost-of-Living Allowance Fund will contact the probate court to obtain the name, address and account number of the person whom the probate court has appointed as the contact person or executor of the estate.

What should the relatives do?

The relatives should not take any action to ensure the payment of the LD savings. Once the Civil Registration System has notified the Cost-of-Living Allowance Fund, the LD savings will be paid into the deceased’s ‘nemkonto’ account.

If the member did not have a ‘nemkonto’ account, payment will not be made until the Cost-of-Living Allowance Fund has received the necessary information from the probate court. The Cost-of-Living Allowance Fund will contact the executor of the estate to obtain details of the account number to which the payment should be made.

If the member was living abroad

If you are a relative of a member living abroad, it is important that you contact the Cost-of-Living Allowance Fund, as we are not always automatically notified of deaths outside Denmark.

In the event of death, the LD savings will always pass to the deceased’s estate. The Cost-of-Living Allowance Fund cannot make a payment to an heir without documentation, which ensures that the payment is made in accordance with the rules governing the distribution of assets.
